Powder Puff Derby Ideas for your Troop
The first step is to purchase one kit per girl. Kits can be purchased at the Boy Scout
Shop in Conroe, Hobby Lobby, or Home Depot. The kit at the Boy Scout shop is
listed at $6.99. They even sell kits at Hobby Lobby that are already cut for you. All you
have to do is paint it!
Once you receive your kit, this is what is inside. It looks intimidating . . . it is not. This is
where getting your dads or anyone interested in woodwork
involved is important.
Set one troop meeting aside to cut out the shapes of your cars.
Ask your dads to bring their tools (band saw or scroll saw) to
the meeting. Remember to be safe. Use appropriate safety techniques
around the equipment that you use like safety googles and masks (if
using an electric sander). Ask the girls to bring outlines of the car shape
that they would like. Use Google and a plethora of ideas will pop up.
You can bring ideas for the girls to use like the one on this page.
Not everyone will have the tools necessary to cut their cars out at
home. This is best done in a troop setting. This is a great way to get
your parents involved. If no one in your troop can help, reach out to
another troop who is participating and cut your cars out together!
Let the girls take their cars home to decorate. Creativity is encouraged! You can buy
transfers or stickers at any of the places where the car kit can be purchased. Any paint
can be used. Be creative. This is where our girls can thrive!
